Brass Festival
“Suite Americana”
Announcing the Lamar University Brass Festival 2023! The festival will take place October 24-26 and features multiple guest artists, Lamar brass faculty, music students and various sponsors. Each day includes a variety of performances, master classes, clinics and exhibits that are open to the public. As the only music event of its kind in Southeast Texas, the festival reaches out to a wide audience, including students, music educators, brass-music enthusiasts and to the general concert-going public. Now in its sixth year, the Brass Festival’s purpose is to educate, inspire and entertain those in attendance by bringing world-renowned artists into our community to perform alongside our faculty and students. This Festival is generously supported by St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica and Swicegood Music Co.
Each concert will begin at 7:30pm and will honor our Country and all those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces. The first concert will feature the United States Air Force Freedom Brass Quintet in a concert of American music, the second and third concerts will feature Lamar University Students and faculty playing patriotic works celebrating America.
Please come out for these exciting community events! Admission is free, but donations to the concert series are welcome.

2023 Festival Guest Artists
USAF Freedom Brass Quintet
Freedom Brass, the brass ensemble of the United States Air Force Band of the West, is stationed at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. The ensemble is comprised of two trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba, and percussion and is dedicated to presenting to its audiences the total spectrum of today's musical literature.
The members of Freedom Brass bring to the United States Air Force many years of professional experience with symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, touring shows, and today's popular artists. This group has been featured in performances at the New York Brass Conference and Boston University's Tanglewood Music Center. Freedom Brass performs for civilian and military audiences throughout the southwestern region of the United States of America with a repertoire spanning five centuries.
Freedom Brass travels more than twenty thousand miles annually and appears in more than 100 concerts and clinics. The group performs at military ceremonies, conducts educational clinics, and presents entertaining community concerts throughout the Band of the West's touring region.
