Welcome to the 2nd Annual Lamar University Brass Festival!

This year we are excited to feature Dr. Bradley Palmer, trombone performer, clinician and conductor from Columbus State University as our guest artist. We will also welcome to the stage the Tephra Collective, an international brass chamber music trio whose dedication to newly composed works and innovative programming have delighted audiences around North America.

Festival Concert Lineup


Thursday, April 27 - Brass Extravaganza

Featuring the international brass chamber group, Tephra Collective, performing newly commissioned music from Newfoundland and the United States from their recent album  Distorted Mirrors. LU faculty and students will perform as well. Admission is free, and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Rothwell Recital Hall.

Friday, April 28 - Evening Brass Showcase

Featuring the Honors Brass Quintet and Cardinal Brass Quintet. Students will perform brass quintet and double quintet music. Admission is free, and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Rothwell Recital Hall.

Saturday, April 29 - Brass Festival Gala Concert with Brad Palmer

Featuring the LU Brass Ensemble, Brass Choir, Trombone Choir, Trumpet Ensemble, soloist/conductor Bradley Palmer, and many special surprises! High School participants will perform in a Massive Brass Choir for the final piece, “Liberty Bell March. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre. $5 admission for everyone, including high school participants.


High School Student Participant Itinerary: Saturday, April 29

On Saturday, the LU Brass Festival will focus exclusively on high school participants! From 9 - 11 a.m., students will have clinics based upon their instrument, browse through the exhibit hall, where they may try new instruments and gear, pre-formed groups will be coached and have the opportunity to perform from 1-3, and there will be a rehearsal on a Mass Brass Choir version of “Liberty Bell March” that High School Participants will perform under the baton of Dr. Palmer on the Gala Concert on Saturday evening.
