LU Drums and Front

LU Drums and Front is the percussion section for the Lamar University Marching Band, "The Showcase of Southeast Texas". We utilize a full-sized "corps-style" drumline and front ensemble comprised of music majors and non-music majors alike. We only hold auditions for primary placements on preferred instruments; so, anyone who would like to join the Showcase should, and are welcome! 

• Mondays from 6:00pm—8:00pm (required sectional)
• Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1:30pm—3:25pm
• Fridays: 2:05pm—3:30pm

Complete the Marching Band Commitment Form to stay up to date and receive pertinent information throughout the summer and season!  Both returning and new members must complete this form.

Audition Information

Auditions for LU Drums and Front will consist of a multi-day live audition process. Both experience camps and the percussion minicamp will serve as the required rehearsals for full consideration of your preferred instrument. Participation in the Showcase is generally guaranteed simply by filling out the commitment form, but priority placement on your preferred instrument is earned by audition. If you are not able to make a summer experience camp, a video submission will be accepted as a substitute. 

Throughout the audition process, we will be rehearsing our season's warmups and pregame material. At any given point, we may ask you to try a different instrument. We are highly interested in individuals who are open to trying new things and want to be a part of something special within a bigger picture. Final placements will be shared on the last day of the August percussion minicamp. 

2026 Important Dates:

• Experience Camps: Saturday, June 13 and Saturday, July 25, 9:30am—4:00pm.
• Move-ins: Thursday, August 6
• Percussion Minicamp: Friday, August 7—Sunday, August 9
• Full Marching Band Camp: Monday, August 10—Saturday, August 15

Instrument Packets 

Rhythm Section (Electronics)

LU Drums and Front does include an electronic rhythm section (bass guitar, electric guitar, synths, drum set), but those positions will be filled on an as-needed basis when available. All interested parties must first fill out their commitment form and then reach out to the Director of Percussion, Dr. Reese Maultsby (rmaultsby@lamar.edu) for further instructions. Any placement auditions for rhythm section members will be held at the live audition percussion mini-camp (dates listed above.)
