Marching Band
To join the marching band, all students must complete a Commitment Form and be ready to attend all band camp dates in August. Students should also enroll in the marching band course. Contact your advisor to add MULB 1075 to your schedule. More info can be found on our Marching Band page. Additionally, marching band participation is not limited to full time students. Contact Dr. Shannon at eshannon@lamar.edu if you will not be a full-time LU student but wish to perform in the marching band.
Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band
To join one or more of these ensembles, students take part in a relaxed audition process at the beginning of the Fall semester. Audition details are typically announced in mid-July each year.
Basketball Pep Band
The Cardinal Basketball Pep Band performs at all of the Lamar men’s and women’s home basketball games, as well as Conference and NCAA tournament games.
The band's instrumentation includes trumpets, trombones, saxophones, tubas, drums, electric bass guitar, and electric guitar. Members earn monetary compensation for participation.
Auditions take place in October. The season starts in mid-November. Audition information can be found on the Pep Band webpage.
How to Become a Music Major, Minor, or Audition for a Non-Music Major Scholarship
After applying to applytexas.org and being accepted to Lamar University, students should go to our Admission and Auditions page and complete all steps. After being accepted to LU, the additional steps are: an Online Music Department Application, completing two scholarship applications in the MyScholarships portal, and performing an audition.
