The Department of Theatre & Dance presents The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the novel by Mark Haddon. The play, set in Swindon and London is about a 15-year-old amateur detective named Christopher John Francis Boone who is a mathematical genius. He appears to have an unspecified autism spectrum, although the condition is never explicitly stated in the play. The titular curious incident is the mystery surrounding the death of a neighbor's dog, Wellington, found speared by a garden fork.
While searching for the murderer of the dog, he encounters resistance from many neighbors, but mostly from his father, Ed Boone. Christopher argues to himself that many rules are made to be broken, so he continues to search for an answer.

Helene Alving is about to dedicate an orphanage she has built in the memory of her late husband, Captain Alving. She reveals to Pastor Manders that her marriage was secretly a miserable one, primarily because of her husband's immoral and unfaithful behavior. She has built the orphanage to deplete her husband's wealth so that their son, Oswald, might not inherit anything from him. Pastor Manders had previously advised her to return to her husband despite his philandering, and she followed his advice in the belief that her love for her husband would eventually reform him. But her husband continued his affairs until his death, and Mrs. Alving stayed with him to protect her son from the taint of scandal, and for fear of being shunned by the community.

Fall Dance Performance

University Theatre
The Lamar University Department of Theatre and Dance will present its fall dance concert, Fall and Recovery, celebrating dance in all its diverse forms, on November 16-18 in the University Theatre.
The concert, featuring ballet, jazz, musical theatre, modern, tap, aerial silks and contemporary dance styles will showcase distinctive, original works choreographed by Kelli Barclay, New York City Broadway dancer, along with LU faculty and other guest artists.
The Birds

The Department of Theatre & Dance presents The Birds. The story focuses on the heroic efforts of disabled farmer Nat Hocken to protect his family from the hordes of birds that relentlessly try to invade the family’s cottage. Nat does odd jobs around the neighborhood, and on his way home one evening in early December, he notices that there are more birds around than usual and that they have become strangely aggressive. When he arrives home, he hears on the radio that all over England something has happened to the birds. “The flocks of birds have caused dislocation in all areas,” says the broadcaster, and there is something sinister in the word “dislocation,” for it suggests that the order of nature has been broken and humanity has lost its dominion over the birds and beasts. When the government and the military admit that there is nothing they can do, Nat is forced to rely on himself to survive. It is survival of the fittest, and who knows who will win.

The Lamar University Department of Theatre and Dance will present William Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors on March 21-24 in the University Theatre. The production is directed by Brian LeTraunik, assistant professor of theatre in the department.
In this classic comedy of mistaken identity, The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets of identical twins who were accidentally separated at birth. As the twins find themselves in the same town on the same day, absolute hilarity unfolds. As the story unravels, a series of wild mishaps lead to wrongful beatings, a near seduction, an arrest and false accusations of infidelity, theft, madness and demonic possession.
Dance Unleashed
Spring Dance Performance

Our spring dance concert, Dance Unleashed, is a family-friendly concert featuring ballet, hip-hop, modern, jazz, tap and contemporary dance styles. The event will showcase distinctive, original works choreographed by Department of Theatre and Dance faculty.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13. The Sunday, April 14, performance will be at 2:00 p.m. All performances will be in the University Theatre.
