The Lamar Cardinals play in one of the best Division I FCS venues in the nation, thanks in large part to the generosity of donors like Walter Umphrey and his partners at Provost Umphrey law firm. In recognition of a $3 million gift from the Beaumont-based law firm and an additional $1 million gift from Walter Umphrey and his wife Sheila, the renovated 16,000-seat stadium was renamed Provost Umphrey Stadium.

The renovated stadium features all new bench and chair-back seating, new restroom and concession facilities, a new concourse area, and increased handicap accessible seating areas. In addition, the installation of new lighting and a Matrix field turf playing surface provides a state-of-the art venue that will not only hold up to challenging weather conditions, but also allow the stadium to be a multi-use facility.

Furthermore, thanks to a $1 million contribution from Education First Federal Credit Union, Provost Umphrey Stadium features a state-of-the-art, video-integrated scoreboard. The video board offers complete flexibility, with the capability to show one large single video image, multiple video images, and a combination of live or recorded video with real time scores and stats, out of town game information, sponsors' messages, graphics and animation.

Provost Umphrey StadiumBesides the scoreboard, Provost Umphrey Stadium features seven luxury suites. Each of the Morgan Suites, named in recognition of a gift of an undisclosed amount from the Morgan Charitable Foundation on behalf of Glen and Teri Morgan, feature a bar with four stools overlooking two tiered rows of six seats each, front motorized windows that can be opened and closed as desired, a refrigerator and cabinet space, and the availability of food and beverage service.

Another important aspect of Provost Umphrey Stadium is the Dan F. and Sandra A. Smith Press Box, which was named in recognition of a $1 million gift to Lamar University by Dan and Sandra Smith. The press box houses areas for game production staff, working media and coaching staffs for both teams.
