Lamar University Ensembles

The band program at Lamar University is one of the most active in the state of Texas, with over 220 students involved in one or more of five ensembles.

Marching Band

"The Showcase of Southeast Texas" (LU Marching Band), performs for thousands of fans and alumni each year at all home football games and select away game, as well as major exhibitions.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is the premiere large ensemble at Lamar University. It provides an opportunity for musicians to emphasize interactive musical skills in a large ensemble setting.

Cardinal Jazz Orchestra

The Jazz Band provides an opportunity to develop skills in playing the varying styles of jazz as well as a platform that encourages the development of skills in improvisation and the practical application of music theory.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. Eric Shannon, performs two concerts each semester. Membership is open to all students, regardless of major, and is determined based upon a relaxed audition process.

Pep Band 2018

Basketball Pep Band

Directed by Dr. Eric Shannon, the pep band performs at all of the Lamar men’s and women’s home basketball games, as well as Western Athletic Conference and NCAA tournament games.
