History Degrees

The history department uses the exploration of the past to provide you the intellectual tools to become informed, responsible citizens. The department specializes in the fields of American, European, Asian and African history, and offers both Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in History at Lamar University offers you several options in terms of focus and an end result: choose the B.A. in History as a standalone program, or opt to add six hours for history or social studies teacher certification.


Graduate Program - LU Students


The Lamar University Master of Arts Degree in History will deepen your knowledge of history through analyzing scholarship and then writing and defending your own scholarly ideas.  Thesis and Non-Thesis options available.


History Minor

Get the most out of your higher education. Together with your major, minor studies will enhance your professional resume.

Students from other disciplines who wish to minor in history must complete 18 semester hours, consisting of 1301 and 1302, either 3321 or 3322, and 9 semester hours of any 4000 level courses. No grade below a “C” will be counted toward the minor.
