What is it like?

The Academic Success Conference assists new and returning undergraduate students in developing strategies, techniques and relationships to thrive at Lamar University. Through workshops and activities, students will build connections with fellow students, faculty and staff. Students will also gain knowledge that will prepare them to think, learn, and perform in ways that lead to success in college.

Why should you attend?

  • Meet and get advice from fellow LU students, faculty, and staff
  • Start off your semester with new study strategies that work
  • Explore your personal motivations and goals
  • Discover the resources and opportunities Lamar University offers
  • Learn more about Financial Aid and how to qualify

"What is ASC?"

  • The Academic Success Conference is a semester kickoff event aiming to help new and returning Lamar University undergraduate students develop evidence-based, college-level learning strategies and study techniques that work. You will also get the chance to explore personal motivations and goals, discover resources and opportunities available on campus, and develop relationships to thrive in your time at LU.

"What's in it for me?"

  • By attending, you will get the chance to meet and network with fellow students, faculty, and staff prior to the start of classes, customize your experience by choosing your own breakout sessions, and receive knowledge, food, fun, and giveaways!

"Do I have to register to attend?"

  • Registration is highly encouraged and it allows you to stay connected and up to date with reminders and exciting information leading up to the event! While registration isn't required, the attendance capacity is 255 and it is first come, first served. Registering and staying connected has its benefits!

"I don't live on campus (or I have work), so I probably won't be able to make it."

  • One of the most impactful strategies for success in college is building a healthy and supportive network of friends, resources, and mentors such as faculty and staff. While an additional trip to campus takes more effort, it will also be worth it to gain knowledge, tools, and support for the semester(s) to come! Plus, who can say no to free lunch, a t-shirt, and swag??
