Lamar Introduction to Engineering


This Summer Program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), ExxonMobil, Motiva, BASF and the College of Engineering. Applicant criteria will focus on those entering 7th and 8th grade and can commute daily to the University. Preference is given to underrepresented minorities and/or females.


  • Engage in discussions and experiments with LU faculty
  • Visit engineering labs on campus
  • Learn about career and study opportunities in engineering
  • Interact with LU students, alumni and faculty
  • Work in teams on fun engineering projects


  • Entering  7th or 8th grade
  • Must have a 'B' average in Math and Science classes
  • Have strong recommendation from current mathematics or science teacher


  • July 16th – 19th


  • 9am – 3pm each day, dropoff beginning at 8:30am


  • No Fee, provided in part by THECB, ExxonMobil and BASF 
  • Meals, snacks, camp shirts and activities are included

How to Apply

  1. Obtain a copy of your child's most recent report card. 
  2. Have his/her math or science teacher fill out a Teacher Recommendation. Form must be hand-signed by the teacher. For homeschool students, please contact Ryan Litchfield.
  3. Submit an online application along with the above materials by May 31.

Selections will be made June 1st and posted online. Parents will be notified via email. Students who do not make the initial cut will be placed on a reserve list if there are any drops.
