Biography

Dr. Qian is a professor in water resource engineering. She received Chi-Epsilon (the civil engineering honor society) James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012. Dr. Qian was awarded as “Anita Riddle Fellow” for Research Excellent Faculty from college of engineering at Lamar University from 2017 to 2020, “First Place Award” for Faculty Sponsor in Undergraduate Research Expo. in 2016, and “Presidential Faculty Fellowships” for research from Lamar University, 08/2014–05/2015. She awarded as “Outstanding Service Award” by Overseas Chinese Environmental Engineers and Scientists Association (OCEESA) in 2019.

Dr. Qian is interested in how hydrology, hydraulics, and geomorphology influence ecological health in fluvial and coastal systems. Her research goal is to advance process-based knowledge to allow better informed land use planning, ecological restoration design, and preservation of aquatic ecosystems. Dr. Qian is PI or co-PI for 24 funded projects (> 2.5 million)  funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA),U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Texas General Land Office (GLO), Sabine-Neches River Waterway Navigation District, Lower Neches River Authority, Center for Advances in Port Management, Center for Advances in Water and Air Quality, Center for Resiliency, and Lamar University. She was an author or co-author over 50 peer-reviewed publications including book chapters, journal articles and conferences abstracts, presentation and proceedings. She was being the lead author on virtually most of her publications. In addition, over 30 research reports have been completed.

Dr. Qian has actively engaged in professional development and stay at the leading edge in her area of research endeavor through international, national, and state/regional professional membership/activities in a number of leading professional associations including the AGU, ASCE, Chi Epsilon, CAWRA and OCEESA. She has served as co-organizer and executive consultative committee member for international level conferences: Mainland-Taiwan Environmental Protection Conference (MTEPC) in 2017 and 2019 and was a Co-chair of geometric design and drainage design section for the World Transport Convention, Beijing, China, 2017, 2018, 2019. Dr. Qian teaches fluid mechanics, hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality modeling. She is also an active proponent of Engineering education through her research activities.
