Degree: Master of Science
Major: Chemistry
Hours: Thesis 30, Non-Thesis 36
The Master of Science program in Chemistry prepares students for advanced graduate studies or entry into industrial or educational positions. The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department has active research programs in several areas including environmental chemistry biochemistry, surface chemistry, computational chemistry, materials science, polymer chemistry, transition metal coordination chemistry, molecular spectroscopy and organic reaction mechanisms.
This program prepares you for practice as a professional chemist by teaching academic fundamentals, creative and independent thinking through independent study and research, and leadership skills through interaction with undergraduate students as graduate teaching assistants. The program is also excellent preparation for further advanced study at other institutions, leading to the Ph.D. degree in chemistry or professional degrees in chemistry-related fields.
