Lamar University invites students of all ages to a variety of summer camps to be held on campus this summer. Camps are offered for a variety of ages and interests with both daily and residential opportunities.

Lamar Nursing Nightingale Experience

The Nightingale Experience is a two-day event June 9-10 for students entering grade 10 and 11 who are interested in nursing. Students are introduced to the nursing profession through simulated hands-on nursing skills in hospital settings. Students must be recommended by high school counselors. Lamar Intro to Engineering

The L.I.T.E. Summer Program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, ExxonMobil, Motiva, BASF and the College of Engineering, making the camp free to participants. Applicant criteria will focus on those entering 7th and 8th grade and who can commute daily to the university. Preference is given to underrepresented minorities and/or females. Participants will engage in discussions and experiments with LU faculty, visit engineering labs, learn about career and study opportunities, and work in teams on fun engineering projects. They must be entering the 7th or 8th grade, have at least a “B” average in math and science classes, and receive strong recommendations from their current math or science teachers. L.I.T.E. - Senior

Lamar Introduction to Engineering (LITE) – Senior is sponsored by Motiva and the College of Engineering. Applicant criteria will focus on those entering or currently in high school and who can commute daily to the university. Preference is given to underrepresented minorities and/or females.Those interested in attending the LITE-Senior program are encouraged to apply. Registration will be open until May 31. In the program, participants will explore the tasks engineers undertake on a daily basis, engage with faculty members in an array of disciplines, concentrate on a variety of applications in each field, participate in presentations and hands-on activities, and learn the meaning of what it is to be an engineer. Applicants must have a “B” average in math and science classes and a strong recommendation from their current math or science teachers. The program will be held 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., July 23-27, and the registration fee of $50 is due upon being accepted. STEAM LU Summer Art Camp

The LU Summer Art Camp is an intensive week of exciting hands-on integrated learning activities and art projects. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curriculum has been adapted to place "Art" back into the center of learning, creating STEAM. The camp, July 9-13, presents through the STEAM mindset, opportunity for students to learn that art and design are essential components to understanding the world, as they engage in problem solving through visual methods. The LU Summer Art Camp courses are designed to be concentrated and active. Each course will be taught by a professional art educator with art certification and teaching experience in the area of STEAM. Bernard Harris Summer STEM Camp

The Bernard Harris Summer STEM Camp is a no cost two-week camp to be hosted at Lamar University under the direction of Dr. Otilia Urbina, executive director, June 11-22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.  The camp is sponsored by Bernard A. Harris Jr., astronaut and president of the Harris Foundation. The camp will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The theme this year is "Biodiversity: The Spice of Life." Students from Jefferson County wishing to apply must be entering the 7th grade in fall 2018. They must have an A-B average in their mathematics and science courses and be recommended by their math and science teachers. X-Plore LUEE Summer Camp

X-Plore LUEE is held June 12-14 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for girls entering 7th and 8th grade who are interested in electrical engineering. Activities will center on robotics, electronics, communications and more. Space is limited. Band Camp I/Band Camp II

Camp dates are June 17-21 for students entering grades 7-8 and June 24-28 for students entering grades 9-12. Students participate in band rehearsals, chamber ensembles, private lessons and master classes. For registration and details, visit lamar.edu/bandcamp or call (409) 880-8148.

All-State Choir Camp

Camp will be July 22-July 28 to introduce students entering grades 9-12 to the repertoire for the All-Region and All-State Choir auditions. Registration is online-only: lamar.edu/choircamp or (409) 880-7189.  

Summer Dance Intensive

Held July 9-13 and July 16-20, the junior intensive is for students who have completed grades 3-7; the senior intensive for those who have completed 8th grade+ and adult students. Students study ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary and hip-hop with a stellar lineup of professional dance teachers. Learn to Swim

Group sessions are held June 11-21, June 9-19 and July 23- August 2 for ages 1-year old to adult at $65 for eight lessons. Private lessons are held June 4-7, June 25-28, and July 23 - August 2 for ages 5-year old to adult at $65 for four lessons. For more information, visit lamar.edu/learntoswim.

34th Annual Youth and Young Adult Gospel Music Retreat

The Psalm 150 Gospel Choir presents its 34th Annual Youth and Young Adult Gospel Music Retreat, July 26-28, on the LU campus. Youth from ages 8 to 18 are invited to participate. SPORTS CAMPS

Soccer Camps

Providing the best training environment and camp experience possible, Lamar Soccer Camps blend expert technical and tactical training with a friendly, outgoing staff of coaches to ensure that campers have an unforgettable week of soccer. Coaches include current and former Cardinal players as well as top college, club and high school coaches.

  • Spring College ID Camp (grades 8-12) are $125 on May 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Boys and Girls Lil’ Cardinals Camps (ages 5-6) are $135 per week, 9-11:30 a.m. Camp will end at 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. Sessions are June 11-15 and July 9-13
  • Boys and Girls Full-Day Summer Camps (ages 7-13) are $285 per week from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Camp will end at 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. Sessions are June 11-15 and July 9-13.

Baseball Camps

Baseball Camps provide the opportunity for children ages 6-12 to work on fundamentals and technique with Lamar University baseball coaches and players. Choose from two sessions. Session I is June 18-21 Half Day, 9 a.m.-noon, $175, or Full Day 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. $250. Session II is June 25-28, Half Day, 9 a.m. - noon, $175, or Full Day 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. $250. Session III is July 9-12, Half Day, 9 a.m. - noon, $175, or Full Day 9 a.m. - p.m., $250.

Softball Camps

Elite Prospect Scrimmages for ages 12 and older are June 20 and August 26 at $100 per session. Athletes will participate in 90-minute games on teams put together by the LU coaching staff. Each athlete is guaranteed to play two games in the day with time served at both a primary and secondary position.

Small Group Hitting Camps for ages 12 and older are June 13, July 6, and August 9 , 3-5 p.m. each session at $100 per session. Participants receive individual instruction with different drills, focuses and instructors each session. There will be live hitting each session with separate drills and workouts for slappers. Indoor facilities are available so session will happen rain or shine. Sessions will be limited to the first 16 athletes.

Small Group Pitching Sessions for ages 12 and older are June 13, July 6, and August 9, 3-5 p.m. each session at $100 per session. Participants will receive individual instruction with different drills, focuses and instructors each session. There will be full pitching each session. Indoor facilities are available so session will happen rain or shine. Sessions will be limited to the first 16 athletes.

Youth All-Skills Camp for ages 12 and under is June 19 at $60 per session:

  • Offense Session (9-11 a.m.): Drills for bunting, slapping and hitting.
  • Infield/Outfield Session (noon-2 p.m.): Drills for defensive play in the infield and outfield.
  • Pitching/Catching Session (3-5 p.m.): Spin, velocity, accuracy and conditioning drills for pitchers; full session of catching drills to train the DI bound athlete; participants will NOT be catching pitches during this session. Pitchers must supply their own catcher.

Elite All-Skills Camp for ages 12 and older is August 25 at $60 per session.

Men’s Basketball Camps

Lamar University Men’s Basketball Camp teaches the fundamentals of the game in a fun and competitive environment. Players will learn one-on-one moves, team concepts and defensive skills that will help them as they progress as a player. Campers will also learn the importance of proper shooting techniques from LU coaches and players.

Experienced trainers are available at all times. Each camper is covered by health and accident insurance during camp hours. Insurance coverage is secondary to primary insurance. Completed indemnification and medical treatment forms are required at registration.

  • Camp 1 for ages 6-18 is $185 on June 11-14, Monday-Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. – Noon.
  • Camp 2 for ages 6-18 is $185 on June 25-28 Monday-Wednesday from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m.- Noon.

Women’s Basketball Camps

Elite Camp is August 4 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. for varsity-level players. The Robin Harmony's Lady Cardinal Basketball Camp teaches the development of fundamental basketball skills using a fun and competitive environment. Players will learn one-on-one moves, team concepts, three-on-three concepts and two man games with game concepts. Campers will also learn the importance of proper shooting techniques and how to utilize the triple threat position.

Individual Camp is June 19-22 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and June 9 from 9 a.m.- Noon. Its open to girls ages 6-17. Players will learn one-on-one moves, team concepts, three-on-three concepts and two man games with game concepts. Campers will also learn the the importance of proper shooting techniques and how to utilize the triple threat position.

Volleyball Camps

Several camps will be offered to focus on various skills.

  • Setting & Attacking I: June 4-5, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., Setting & Attacking II: June 4-5, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., $40, any age level. Half an hour will be spent training setting, half an hour will be spent training attacking.
  • Serving & Defense I: June 4-5, 5 p.m. - 6 p.m., Serving & Defense II: June 4-5, 5 p.m. - 6 p.m., $40, any age level. Half an hour will be spent training serving, half an hour will be spent training defense.
  • Youth Camp: June 11-12, 9 a.m.- Noon, $90, grades 3-6. The Youth Camp will introduce basic fundamental skills of volleyball.
  • Middle School Camp: July 9-11, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., $220, grades 5-8. Camp will focus on individual skills, as well as systems for High School Level athletes.
  • Varsity Team Camp: July 14-15, 1p.m. - 5 p.m., $135, must have 6 players to register. Includes brief skill training and then tournament play.
  • Elite Camp: July 16-18, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., $220, grades 9-12. Camp will focus on individual skills, as well as systems for High School Level athletes.
