Scholarships

Lamar University and the College of Engineering are dedicated to helping students achieve their educational goals. Scholarships are one valuable tool to do that. These scholarships are made possible by generous donations from alumni and friends. Most scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement. Other factors such as academic major, leadership ability and specialized skills (athletics, marching band, art, music, etc.) also may be considered in awarding scholarships. For priority consideration for Lamar University scholarships, apply no later than February 1 each year.

The College of Engineering has numerous endowed scholarships available for first-time-in college students that range from $500-$6,000. To apply for these scholarships please complete your application on myScholarships.

Prospective Student Scholarships

Lamar University offers the Academic Excellence Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • SAT (before March 2016): 1150-1240
  • SAT (after March 2016): 1220-1300
  • ACT: 25-27
  • High School Rank: Top 25% of graduating Class

Scholarship Amount:

$4,000 a year= $2,000 Room and $2,000 Tuition
($16,000 total for four years)

Depending on your scores and class rank, you may be eligible to receive additional scholarship funds. You can also apply for other University scholarships by going to myScholarships.  

Top Scholars Program

Outstanding incoming freshmen with exceptionally strong academic records are invited to apply for LU’s Top Scholars program. Top Scholars receive a full scholarship for four years covering tuition, fees, room and board, and books. To be considered a candidate for this scholarship, applicants should:

  • Be first-time-in-college freshmen (dual credit and AP credit are not disqualifying)
  • Have a minimum SAT score (before March 2016) of 1300 or 1330 (after March 2016) (math and critical reading) or an ACT score of 29
  • Have a record of demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, service and/or creative endeavors.

Current Student Scholarships

The College of Engineering offers a host of scholarship for current students. The criteria for these scholarships are a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be an undergraduate student. If you are a current student and looking for scholarship opportunities, please complete our online application on MyScholarships. The scholarship will be awarded for the following Fall semester. Priority deadline is February 1 st.
