Dr. Mary L. Scheer serves as both department chair and as director of the Center for History and Culture at Lamar University. She teaches the second half of the U.S. survey, Texas history, women's history, and the history of American social and reform movements. She authored The Foundations of Texan Philanthropy (Texas A&M University Press, 2004), co-edited Twentieth-Century Texas: A Social and Cultural History (University of North Texas Press, 2008), and edited Women and the Texas Revolution (University of North Texas Press, 2012). Dr. Scheer was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Potsdam, Germany, in 2004.
