Welcome to Cardinal Nation!

We're so excited that you chose to start your journey at Lamar University. LU offers orientation programs that help students transition to a new academic community, and help family members understand the student experience during this exciting time.

Entering a new academic community is an significant time in a person's life, and we want to help make it as successful as possible. Freshman students are required to attend an Orientation session.

2019 Orientation 

New Student Orientation is a wonderful opportunity to have your questions answered and start navigating the logistics associated with starting college or transferring from one school to another. It's also a great way to make friends, start building your on-campus community, and have FUN!

Our Orientation Leaders will guide you through an interactive introduction to departments, resources, and opportunities for involvement, which will allow you to customize your own unique college experience.

Lamar University offers Orientation for all incoming freshman and transfer students. Freshman students are required attend an Orientation session.

Summer 2019 Orientation Dates

  • Friday, June 21 - Closed
  • Saturday, June 22 - Closed

  • Saturday, June 29* 
  • Friday, July 26

  • Friday, August 2
  • Saturday, August 3 (Transfer Student Orientation)

Orientation is 8 am to 5:30 pm.

Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Some sessions will close based on attendance, so please make your reservations early.

*This session provides translation services from English to Spanish for participating family members.

Orientation Prices

New Student: $50
Parent or Guest: $25 per person

Each new student may register up to 2 guests for their Orientation session.

What to Bring

  • Your photo identification card
  • Your LU identification number, known on campus as your "L Number"
  • Pens and a notepad
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Light jacket (meeting rooms are chilly!)
  • Umbrella

Pre-Orientation Checklist

  • Complete the Pre-Advising Questionnaire after signing up for Orientation
  • Confirmation of your TSI status by the TSI Office. The TSI Office will reach out to you after you register for Orientation.

Freshman Orientation Day-Of Information

Check-In: 8 am to 8:50 am in the University Theatre. 

Parking: Lot C1, Located off Jimmy Simmons Blvd, next to the Recreational Sport Center and Ty Terrell Track. Once you park, an Orientation Leader will lead you to the University Theatre for check-in.

Orientation Schedule: To receive your class schedule, you must attend the full Orientation. Orientation will last from 8:50 am to about 5 pm. Please plan accordingly. Lunch is provided.

Rescheduling Policy

All first-year students are required to attend Orientation. If you need to reschedule your Orientation date, contact the New Student and Leadership Office at 409-880-7775. Rescheduling must be made at least two weeks in advance.
