Whether you start in the summer, fall, or spring, New Student Orientation is ready to welcome you and prepare you for a successful transition to LU!

New Student Orientation is specifically designed for new college students. You'll receive all the information you need to feel confident when you step on campus for your first day of class!

Orientation includes information about student services, academic life, academic advising, and receiving your class schedule. It's also a great way to make friends, start building your on-campus community, and have FUN!

Lamar University offers Orientation for all incoming freshmen and transfer undergraduate students.


Daily Schedule

You're considered a Freshman if:

  • You're a high school graduate who has not attended college before
  • You received college credit while in high school through dual credit, AP, or IB programs
  • You're a transfer student with fewer than 18 hours of college credit

All incoming freshman students are required to attend Orientation.

Transfer Students

What is a Transfer Student?
  • Transfer students are undergraduate students who attended another college or university.
  • You have 18 or more credit hours transferring to Lamar University.
  • College credits earned while enrolled in high school does not mean you're a transfer student.

Transfer students are strongly encouraged to attend Orientation.

COVID-19 Precautions:

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be limited seating available per session.
  • Students may bring one guest.

Registration Fee:

  • $50 per student
  • $25 per guest
  • Fee includes meal, NSO materials, and LU gear

After Registration:

  • After registering, you'll receive a confirmation email.
  • Additional details about Orientation will be emailed throughout the summer, so check your LU student email regularly.

Attending New Student Orientation allows you to:

  • become familiar with campus
  • learn more about your academic major and minor
  • meet your academic advisor, faculty and administration
  • meet new and current students and learn from others experiences
  • be more prepared for your first day, first year and college experience

Reschedule or Cancel Orientation

Rescheduling an Orientation Session must be requested at least two weeks in advance. Before changing your Orientation Session date, please check that the new session you wish to attend to is available.

There is a $10 service fee for rescheduling more than once. You will be charged this service fee for each additional rescheduling request.
