Workshops Designed for LU Students – Every Thursday

STAR Services is hosting an in-person success workshop series designed to help students make the most of their college experience at LU. Each session offers insight on student success and skills that students can take beyond the classroom. These workshops will provide the tools and strategies for students to improve their productivity, manage stress in challenging situations, enhance organization skills, and more.

Where: Setzer Student Center - Cypress (Rooms 125/127)

Note: Each pop-up session will be held at its assigned location.

January

1/22 - Planning for a Successful Spring Semester

This workshop is designed to help students set clear academic goals and develop effective time-management strategies. Participants will learn practical techniques for organizing coursework, balancing responsibilities, and staying motivated throughout the semester. The session aims to equip students with tools and resources to start the spring term with confidence and focus.

1/29 - Developing Self-Discipline*

Learn self-accountability strategies such as the PACT goal setting method and self-reflection to keep yourself on track to achieve your goals.

2/05 - Let's Try Something Different: Attacking the Textbook and Taking Notes

Learn how to effectively read and understand your textbook by identifying key concepts, organizing information, and using active reading strategies. See how you can take meaningful notes based on your readings and apply them to your schoolwork. 

2/12 - Pomodoro Power: Boost Your Focus and Productivity in 25-Minute Bursts!

The Pomodoro Power Technique—a time management method that uses focused 25-minute work sessions followed by short breaks to enhance concentration and reduce burnout. You will learn how to apply this strategy to your daily tasks and build sustainable productivity habits.

2/19 - Where Did the Time Go: 168 Hours

Figure out how you spend your valuable time to find more time for studying, socializing, working, and relaxing. Learn how to spend your time more wisely by keeping track of available hours in your busy schedule.

2/26 - Running on Empty: Managing Academic Stress

Learn to recognize the signs of burnout andacademic pressure and discover practical strategies to manage stress with confidence. Through engaging activities like time management techniques, mindfulness practices, and resilience-building tools, students gain the skills to stay balanced,
focused, and motivated throughout their academic journey.

3/05 - Pop-Up Session:
Test & Study Strategies 

Location: Archer Physics 203

Academic Coaches will share best practices regarding test and study strategies as well as answer any questions students have. 

3/12 - Pop-Up Session: Mid-term Momentum

Location: Education Bldg., Rm. 113

Academic Coaches will provide study strategies and time management planning advice as well as time management planning, stress management, and exam review tips.

3/26 - Pop-Up Session: Academic Recovery

Location: Galloway, Rm. 139

Academic Coaches will discuss the relevance of GPAs and how to set realistic goals to increase their own. Students will peruse online GPA calculators to understand how they work and how they can benefit students working toward academic recovery.

04/02 - Studying Smarter, Not Harder

Learn how to make your study time more effective by using strategies like active recall, spaced repetition, and time management. Instead of studying longer, you’ll discover how to retain more in less time. This workshop will help you build smarter habits that lead to betteracademic results with less stress.

4/09 - Procrastination? Let me get back to you.

Understand the root causes of procrastination and how it impacts academic performance and well-being. Through practical strategies such as goal setting, time management and mindset shifts – participants will learn how to overcome avoidance and take meaningful action toward their academic goals.

4/16 - Beating the Scroll

Learn how to break free from endless phone scrolling and reclaim their time for meaningful, productive activities. Come explore the impact of screen habits on focus and motivation, and learn practical strategies to set boundaries, boost productivity, and stay present.

4/23 - Preparing for Final Exams

Prepare to do your best on your final exams. Understand how to use testtaking, active recall, and study strategies to your advantage to combat test-taking anxiety and do your best on finals.
