Instructional Design

Lamar University instructional designers are available to assist in developing educational materials, such as online courses, training programs, and educational resources.

The instructional designer's role is to create effective and engaging learning experiences that meet the needs of the university. Instructional design services are available to all faculty developing online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses at Lamar. The division has a team of designers ready to aid you in course layout, creation of digital course materials, and support of best practices in online teaching. Whether you are new to online learning, or a seasoned veteran, we have the instructional design services in place to support you.

The Instructional Design Team is here to:

  1. Improve learning outcomes: By following best practices in online course development, instructional designers can help to create online courses that are more effective in promoting learning and improving student outcomes.
  2. Enhance student satisfaction: Students who are satisfied with the learning experience are more likely to complete the course and achieve the desired learning outcomes.
  3. Comply with quality standards: Many organizations, such as Quality Matters, have established quality standards for online courses. The instructional design team can help ensure that online courses offered by the university meet these standards and are effective in promoting learning.
  4. Provide faculty support: Through the use of written guides, video tutorials, training sessions and 1-on-1 meetings, an instructional designer is standing by to assist.
