How do I drop, change or add an online course?

To drop, change or add an online course, notify your instructor and email luacademic@lamar.edu for the correct paperwork.

If I’m having problems in the course, who should I contact first?

If you are currently in courses, you should first contact the instructional associate assigned to the course section. Contact information for the instructional associates can be found on the Getting Started page of the course, or in the Announcements section of the course. The instructional associates generally take care of issues with assignments and grading.
If you are unable to get the assistance needed from the instructional associate, please contact the professor assigned to the course. Contact information for the professor can be found on the Getting Started page of the course, or in the Announcements section of the course. Professors generally take care of issues related to the content of the course and other questions.

How can I find out when my course ends and the next one begins?

You can find information about online course start and end dates on the Lamar University Academic Partnerships website under the Student Services tab, or by contacting luacademic@lamar.edu.

If I have a question about a grade, who should I contact?

Your instructor, who is the only one able to change your grade.

How do I purchase textbooks?

The counseling program in the Department of Counseling and Special Populations has adopted the Pearson Digital Library as a new way to deliver your course materials for savings on course required textbooks.
The Pearson Digital Library is customized to the Lamar University counseling programs for access to the majority of required and supplemental Pearson eTexts.
You can purchase access to the digital library either via an access code from the bookstore or directly online on the Lamar University counseling digital library website.
Textbooks are also available from the Lamar University Barnes and Noble Bookstore.

Self-Service Banner
Your official course grades and transcript are contained in Self-Service Banner. Any final grades in the Blackboard grade book are unofficial. The official grades are all entered into Banner and can be accessed at any time. Please use your Banner ID (this can be found on the front of your Cardinal One Card, beginning with “L”) and your PIN to log in.

LU Email
This is the email account which all Lamar University business must be sent. As per LU policy, the COSP department will only reply to students using LU email accounts. No other form of email is acceptable to correspond with the faculty and staff. Please use your LEA username and password to log in.

Blackboard
Blackboard is a learning management system used for online course management and delivery. All online courses, and some components of on-campus courses, will be hosted here. Be sure to check Blackboard often to keep up with course lectures, assignments, announcements and future due dates. Lamar University students, faculty and staff can log in to Blackboard using their LEA username and password. If you do not remember your LEA username and/or password, please go to the LEA username/password recovery wizard, located in Self Service Banner.

Lamar University Student Handbook
Policies and regulations of the university, as well as important information about the university, can all be found in the Student Handbook. This handbook serves as your guide for any general questions you may have about LU. Need to know the hours the Dining Hall is open? Or maybe you’re interested in the fine arts facilities on campus. Perhaps you have forgotten the words to the fight song?  All that information and more can be found in the Student Handbook.

Financial Aid
Many of our programs are financial aid eligible, so it is important to complete your application for admissions at LU at www.applytexas.org and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.gov. The financial aid website has extensive, detailed instructions on the application process available to use as your personal guide. Grants and other alternative forms of aid may also be awarded to students, so be sure to check the financial aid webpage for further information on grants and loans here. Federal grants and additional assistance may also be found using grants.gov, which is managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.


Lamar University Library
The Mary and John Gray Library is your resource to access thousands of books, journals and articles, both on-campus and online. Here you can find helpful research guides, search through databases that pull items from all over the web and find exactly what resources are available to you in the library right now. Use your LEA username and password to login.

Lamar University Writing Center
The Lamar Writing Center offers individualized tutoring sessions that seek to improve composing skills so that you can approach any writing assignment in a progressively more skilled and confident manner. For helpful writing resources, including a guide for correct APA format and style, see the Purdue Online Writing Lab.

Student Health Center
The Student Health Center is committed to providing quality health care to the students of Lamar University. They offer many medical services.
Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Counseling Center
Mental health/psychological counseling services are available at the Student Health Center if you are currently enrolled at LU or LIT. Knowing that college students face many pressures and challenges, our counseling staff aspires to provide the guidance and support needed to assist you in achieving academic and personal success. Licensed mental health professionals are available by appointment for individual counseling sessions, group therapy (as the need arises) and couples counseling (on a limited basis).
Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Apply for Graduation
Once you are approved to apply for graduation, you will receive an email invitation from the Registrar's Office on your LU student email account inviting you to apply online via Self-Service Banner. NOTE:  Please do not attempt to apply online until you have received the invitation.
