Draft Transition Constitution for Iran Written by Legal Scholars and Experts

National Iranian Congress, legal scholars, and experts drafted a constitution for the period of Iran's transition to a secular democracy. The draft constitution is in support of death penalty abolition. The draft transition constitution was introduced and discussed with prominent U.S. Senators and Representatives including Senator John Cornyn, Senator Jeff Sessions, Congressman Ted Deutch, Congressman Trent Franks, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and Congressman Dan Crenshaw. The draft constriction has been placed at the Library of Congress, and has been mentioned in the United States Congressional Research Service report. The electronic version is now available online.

The Center for Death Penalty Studies at Lamar University follows the news regarding the abolition of death penalty in world's constitutions. Since every country with a constitutional bar against the death penalty managed to refrain from engaging in executions, while constitutional guarantees of freedom of movement and prohibitions against arbitrary arrest or detention where fully honored by over 3/4 of the countries that promised them, the Center for Death Penalty Studies focuses on the new developments of draft constitutions.
