What is a Transfer Student?

Transfer Student

  • Transfer students are undergraduate students who attended another college or university. 
  • Transfer students with fewer than 18 transferable credit hours will have to meet freshmen standards for admission.
  • To qualify for transfer admission, students should have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for all work attempted and be eligible to re-enter all colleges and universities previously attended.

Application Process

1.Submit your application through  ApplyTexas.

Students with less than 18 hours of college credit:

2. Submit an official high school transcript, verifying graduation.
3. Submit official college transcripts from ALL colleges attended.
4. You must meet freshman standards and your application will go through the same preliminary and secondary review.


Students with more than 18 hours of college credit:

After Applying

Applications can take 2-3 weeks to be processed. Once your application has been processed, we will send you an email notifying you of any updates. 

After processing is complete, you will receive an email including your Lamar University ID number "L Number" which you can use to check your admission status.

Memorize your L Number as it will be required during communication with LU. If any admissions documents are missing, you will receive an email alerting you for your convenience.

Admission Appeals

Prospective transfer students who receive a rejection letter from Lamar University are eligible to appeal their admission decision by following our appeals process.

Scholarships

Lamar University offers a number of scholarships exclusively to transfer students in addition to general scholarships! Once you've been admitted, you are encouraged to apply for scholarships through the myScholarships. LEARN MORE
