Lamar University's Bachelor of Arts in Applied History prepares students to apply historical research, interpretation and techniques outside academia, often for museums, archives, historic sites and government agencies. This objective of this program is to focus on practical skills like curation, digital archiving and historical preservation rather than just academic research.
By enrolling in this program, you will develop key skills such as archival management, oral history techniques and critical communication of historical narratives. Internships with historical societies, museums or archives are common in this field. The Department of History also offers a B.A. in History and a teacher certification.

History Research: Principles and methods of historical research.
American Revolution and Early National Era: United States history from 1754 to 1815.
U.S. History 1815-1845: A seminar on U.S. history, 1815-1845.
Obtaining a bachelor's degree in applied history prepares you for hands-on roles in museums, archives, historic sites and government agencies, focusing on public engagement, preservation and research. Pursuing a master's or doctoral degree is encouraged if you wish to pursue a career as a college professor.
