Since its inception in 1993, Texas Academy students have thrived in every field, from securing research grants to excelling in Model United Nations competitions. As one of only three programs in Texas, Texas Academy offers high school students the unique opportunity to be full-time college students on a university campus.

TA STUDENT SELECTED FOR THE CARL B. & FLORENCE E. KING FOUNDATION SUMMER PROGRAMIsabella Tran is among twelve students chosen for this prestigious program, which offers a unique opportunity to engage in a research project within a biomedical discipline. Under the mentorship of a full-time MD Anderson faculty member, she will gain hands-on experience while exploring the fundamental principles that drive scientific investigation. |
TA STUDENT JANAI COLLINS SELECTED FOR UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON ACTING PROGRAMThe B.F.A. Acting Program guides a select ensemble of 16 students through an integrated curriculum incorporating acting, voice and speech, movement, stage and screen combat, theatre history, play analysis and more. Students gain both foundational knowledge and practical proficiency, becoming creative, collaborative, technique-based performing artists. With the assistance and individualized attention of a faculty mentor, students navigate the curriculum and gain practical experience by mounting eight fully produced productions each season across three distinct performance spaces. There are also opportunities to work with the Houston Shakespeare Festival, UH’s professional theatre company. |
RED ROBOTICS QUALIFIES FOR WORLDSThe Red robotics teams traveled to Houston, TX with the college of engineering to compete in the VEX Robotics Texas Region 3 Championship. one of the teams qualified to compete at the world championship! The competition will be held in dallas during the month of may. |
TA STUDENTS PERFORM AT TMEA AUDITIONSGrand Chorus members and Texas Academy students Janai Collins, and Katelynn Copeland competed at TMEA Area Auditions this past weekend, and we are immensely proud of all of their dedication throughout this months long process. Katelynn placed 1st in the Soprano 2 section, and made the All-State LSC Mixed Choir! She will be performing at the TMEA convention on Saturday, February 15th at 5 PM in the Stars at Night Ballroom at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
Additionally, the LSC Mixed Choir will be the featured choir at National ACDA in Dallas from March 21-22, and Katelynn will be there!

NATIONAL MERIT LETTER OF COMMENDATIONTA Senior Paul Curry was awarded a Letter of Commendation for outstanding performance on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in 2023. This academic recognition is given to high-performing students who score in the top 50,000 out of over 1.3 million PSAT test-takers. |
TA UNVEILS NEW STUDENT SPACE: THE BAT CAVEThe Texas Academy Bat Cave is now officially open! A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the occasion, with generous contributors from the Lamar University College of Business gathering to celebrate the new student space. Designed to enhance academic and extracurricular opportunities, the Bat Cave will serve as a hub for Texas Academy students to study, collaborate, and host student-led meetings. Texas Academy extends its gratitude to the LU College of Business School of Accounting, Finance, and Economics for their generosity in creating a dedicated space for student growth and engagement. |

After months of dedication and rehearsals, the duo showcased their talent in multiple shows, captivating audiences with their exceptional portrayals. Their hard work and commitment to the arts highlight the impressive abilities of Texas Academy students both in and out of the classroom. |
TA HOSTS INNOVATION COLLABORATION CAMP TO INSPIRE STEM CAREERSThe Texas Academy at Lamar University, in partnership with key sponsors, recently hosted the Innovation ColLABoration Camp, part of the Governor’s Summer Merit Program. Designed to spark interest in high-demand STEM careers, the camp provided hands-on learning experiences. Dr. Tilisa Thibodeaux played a key role in securing nearly $100,000 in funding from the Texas Workforce Commission, expanding opportunities for students. Participants also engaged in a STEM research study, exploring postsecondary pathways and fostering collaboration between education and workforce development programs. |
LAMAR UNIVERSITY PRESENTS TA STUDENTS FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIPSLamar University awarded the Class of 2024 5 full-ride scholarships. Presidential Scholarships were awarded to Alli Gross, Nikhil Patel, Natalie Bean, and Joshua Florence. The SETX Legends Scholarship was awarded to Macy Ostten. |
JOANNE YI NAMED NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTJoanne Yi, a student at Lamar University's Texas Academy, has achieved the honor of being named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. The National Merit Scholarship Program is a United States academic scholarship competition for recognition and university scholarships. The program is open to high school juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet specific criteria, such as achieving a high score on the test. Read more about it here. |
TAMUN EXCELS AT HAMUN CONFERENCEThe Texas Academy Model United Nations team (TAMUN) had a great week competing at the Houston Area Model United Nations Conference at the University of Houston! TA PARTNERS WITH TREE-PLENISH TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITYTexas Academy students are teaming up with the nonprofit Tree-Plenish to make their community greener. On April 20, 2024, they will plant 100 saplings to offset the school's energy consumption from the past academic year. Community members can support the initiative by ordering a sapling for their yard or volunteering for the event. Saplings—available in Pecan, Eastern Redbud, and Red Maple—are $5 each. Join the effort to create a more sustainable future and help reach the goal! |
TAMUN CLENCHES AWARDS AT TWHSMUN CONFERENCE14 TA Students competed at The Woodlands High School and several took home awards. Among those were Sidra Ganni, Joanne Yi, Chloe Doyle, and Madison McGuire. This competition served as a great practice round for the upcoming Houston Area Model United Nations Conference at the University of Houston.

TA SENIOR RECOGNIZED AS NATIONAL MERIT COMMENDED STUDENT Evelyn Hardy, a Texas Academy senior from Cuero, Texas, has been named a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Program, an honor awarded to students demonstrating exceptional academic promise based on SAT performance. Out of more than 15 million high school students nationwide, only 34,000 earn this prestigious designation. While Commended Students do not advance in the National Merit Scholarship competition, the recognition highlights Hardy’s dedication and opens doors to future educational opportunities. |
TA STUDENTS RAISE OVER 10,000 AT FISHING TOURNAMENTThis past weekend, the Texas Academy hosted our first ever Fish 'N Fest! Thank you to all of our sponsors, donators, anglers, and guests that came out to support our students! Our students raised over $10,000 to help with student body and club activities, social events, and career/professional development workshops.Also, shoutout to the Lamar State College Orange LSCO Fishing Club for coming out to assist our students in running the tournament!

LU COE UNVEILS REVAMPED TA LOUNGE Texas Academy students returned from winter break to a newly renovated student lounge, courtesy of Lamar University’s College of Engineering (COE). The updated space features new furniture, computer stations, decor, and an acrylic Texas Academy logo, creating a more inviting and functional environment. The Texas Academy maintains a strong partnership with the COE, providing students with financial, academic, and emotional support. Faculty, department chairs, and the dean serve as mentors, offering guidance and encouragement to help students thrive. |

TA SENIOR PRESENTS RESEARCH AT TEHA ANNUAL CONFERENCE Texas Academy senior Evelyn Hardy recently presented her research at the Texas Environmental Health Association’s 67th Annual Education Conference. Her study examined the effects of 3D-printed Bouligand structures with varying pitch angles on a material’s dynamic yield strength. Hardy’s participation was made possible through sponsorship from the Lamar University Office of Undergraduate Research, highlighting the Academy’s commitment to fostering student innovation and academic excellence. |

TA SENIOR RUBIN RAO ACHIEVES EAGLE SCOUT STATUS Congratulations to Texas Academy senior Rubin Rao on being inducted as an Eagle Scout! To earn this prestigious rank, Rubin dedicated countless hours to service, camping, and merit badge courses, as well as completing a service project. For his project, he built a shelter for a three-legged horse at Stable Spirit. He also participated in a board review. Only 5% of scouts reach the Eagle Scout achievement. A special thanks to the Lamar University College of Engineering for sponsoring Rubin’s service project! |
