Admission Requirements


Lamar University and the Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities (TALH) have changed admissions policies for students applying for Fall 2020 term. Changes include:


Lamar University is reviewing all applications for freshman admission under a holistic, test-optional format for students applying for Fall 2020. Students will not be required to submit an SAT/ACT score to receive an admissions decision.


We understand prospective students may not be able to access documents like official high school or community college transcripts at this time. Lamar University will now accept unofficial transcripts in order for a student to receive an admissions decision.

Documents can be mailed to: Office of Admissions, PO BOX 10009, Beaumont TX 77710. Additionally, electronic documents can be sent to the Office of Admissions from high schools and colleges/universities.

You may choose a one-year or two-year experience. You may apply to Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities in Beaumont if you meet these entrance requirements:

  • Must be Texas resident
  • Have successfully met the Texas Education Agency requirements for the 10th grade, including completion of Alg 2 (or 11th grade if applying for one-year experience)
  • Be of strong character and possess the emotional maturity needed to succeed in the program
  • Have complied with other requirements established by admission guidelines
  • Have minimum test scores as listed below
    • ACT - minimum composite score of at least 21; or
    • SAT - no less than 580 on the Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) and 550 on Math; and
