What We Believe

Our Philosophy

The Lamar University community places a significant amount of trust in its police department. We honor this trust by dedicating ourselves to the community we serve. Through a community-oriented, intelligence-driven philosophy, we seek to solve problems and effectively enforce the law.

The Lamar University Police Department will continue to improve safety and security through education, training, and adoption of state and national best practices to achieve a gold standard in law enforcement.

Our Mission

The mission of the Lamar University Police Department (LUPD) is to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for learning. Through the use of various policing tactics and resources, the LUPD safeguards life, protects property, enforces the law, and upholds the rights of all citizens.

LUPD operates in a spirit of partnership to ensure our University community remains safe. We promote individual responsibility and community commitment through active engagement.

Our Core Values

Justice – We seek to be fair and consistent with the enforcement of law. LUPD members give consideration to all sides of a situation, and form our decisions in an objective and impartial manner.

Honor – We respect the public's trust in our position as law enforcement officers. We hold each other to the highest standards of character and judgment -- on and off duty.

Integrity – We strive to be honest and truthful through our interactions with our community. We place our sense of duty and principles above our personal gains.

Courage – We stand for what is right, and accept our shortcomings when we are wrong. When confronted with physical or moral dilemmas, we choose to do the right thing even though it may not be the popular thing to do.
