How to Apply

McNairs Scholars Program is designed to create a direct pipeline to graduate study. McNair scholars receive research experience, financial and academic support, travel opportunities cultural engagement, graduate preparation and professional development.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • 45 Completed undergraduate semester hours
  • First generation / low income undergraduate student
  • And/or be a member of a group underrepresented in graduate study (African American, HIspanic, Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
  • Desire to pursue Masters and/or Ph.D.

The Lamar University Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is 100% federally funded at $230,215 by the U.S. Department of Education annually.

Application Process

  1. Applicants will be checked to determine eligible GPA and hours.
  2. Applicants will be classified as first generation, low income and/or underrepresented student.
  3. Application will be reviewed by the selection committee to determine students who will receive an interview
  4. Approved applicants will receive an offer to allow the selection committee to determine the applicants education goals and fit with the program.
