Lamar University Highway Marquee Guidelines 


Ownership and oversight of highway marquees are managed by the Office of Marketing Communications, which is responsible for both content approval and updates, while technical support is handled by the Division of Information Technology. 
 
Approved Content Categories 
The marquee is reserved for high-impact, external-facing messaging, including: 
  • Athletics 
    • Weekly game information highlights 
    • Game day promotions 
    • Coaches Show 
    • Cardinal Athletic Fund messaging 
  • Campus-wide Announcements 
    • Campus closures 
    • Commencement 
  • Recruitment 
    • Admissions-related messaging 
    • Cardinal View 
  • Community 
    • Theatre, Dance, Band, & Choir public performances 
    • Alumni events 
    • Naming celebrations/donor recognition
    • Red Day 
    • Cardinal Lights 
    • Spindletop Boomtown Museum (hours or key info, if applicable) 
  • Emergency Messaging 
    • Reserved for urgent, high-priority communication such as: 
      • Severe weather alerts 
      • Campus evacuation notices 
    • Emergency messaging overrides all scheduled content. 
Restricted Content 
The following are not permitted: 
  • Internal-only events for students, faculty, or staff
  • Community events being hosted on LU campus
  • Routine faculty, staff or student recognitions 
  • Sponsored advertising 
  • Any content deemed inappropriate or misaligned (at the discretion of Marketing & Communications) 
Message Limits & Timing 
  • Maximum Messages Running: 8–10 at a time 
  • Display Duration: Up to 1 week per message (at the discretion of Marketing & Communications) 
Design & Accessibility Standards 
  • No animation
  • Brightness and contrast must meet visibility and accessibility standards 
  • Graphics should be clear, concise, and readable at a distance
