Kelly Brown, Ed.D.
Chair and Associate Professor
Dr. Kelly Brown is Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and an Associate Professor at Lamar University. Her career spans public school teaching and administration in Houston, faculty roles at Prairie View A&M, Lamar, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and more than a decade guiding doctoral students through the dissertation process.
Dr. Brown's research focuses on dismantling systemic barriers to student success in K-12 and higher education, with a current emphasis on artificial intelligence in doctoral education, including a funded project supporting timely dissertation completion among first-generation and marginalized doctoral students. She has authored or edited four books, including Impact Leadership for Lasting School Change (Teachers College Press, 2025), and has chaired more than 40 doctoral dissertations. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Innovations in Education & Human Development: Research and Practice and is the recipient of the 2026 Theodore "Ted" Creighton Publication Innovation Award. Dr. Brown earned her Ed.D. from Texas Southern University.
