
Courtney Sutton
Head Cheer and Dance Coach
Courtney Sutton has over thirty-two years of training and experience in the spirit programs industry as an athlete, coach, choreographer, and instructor. A native of Knoxville, TN, she trained as a dancer from early childhood through college in a range of styles including ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, pom, modern, and kick, as well as competed on the state and national level while captaining her high school dance team. Since then, she has taught in studios, managed competitive dance companies, and been the Head Coach of various dance teams ranging from middle school to collegiate ages, including Middle Tennessee State University's Dance Team and Sam Houston State University's Orange Pride. Her background also includes thirteen years on Universal Dance Association Staff, part of Varsity Brands, as an Instructor, Head Instructor, and Custom Choreographer. During her career, she has taught or choreographed for teams and studios in over twenty-five different states and has also worked various spirit team events across the country, from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York to Cheer and Dance Worlds in Florida. Not only has she judged many competitions throughout the Southeast, including the Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia State Dance Team Championships, but her choreography also frequently wins awards at competition, such as the National Dance Alliance Collegiate National Championship's "Best Choreography Award." After returning to Knoxville and completing her bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Tennessee, she is now excited to be the Head Cheer and Dance Coach at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.
