Audition Prep Clinic

Date: Sunday, February 22, 2026
Time: 12 pm – 4 pm; Check-in begins at 11:30 am
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center, 4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.
Registration Fee: $35
Ages: High School and College students

Attire: Athleisure or dancewear in any color, including leggings, dance shorts, crop tops, sports bras, or athletic tops. Dancers should bring jazz shoes, half soles, or be prepared to dance barefoot. Additional layers such as sweatpants, tennis shoes, hoodies, or sweatshirts may be worn for hip-hop.

• Audition prep, including:
  • Getting to know your judges
  • What to bring and how to prepare
  • Tips on how to stand out in auditions
  • Expectations for audition day
• Q&A with current team members

This clinic also serves as an opportunity to earn an invitation to in-person auditions or be recruited for the 2026-20267 Lamar University Dance Team. This clinic is a great opportunity to get insight on LUDT as well as college dance team audition preparation for any dance program.

Spring Show Clinic for Kids

Participants will learn a dance from current Lamar University Dance Team members and perform it during intermission at the annual spring show on May 2. This clinic is open to dancers in first through eighth grade. Participants will have a rehearsal at 5:30 PM on May 2 before the show begins. Participants will receive their performance t-shirt at rehearsal on May 2.

Registration Fee: $40, includes t-shirt and one ticket to the Annual Show
Age: 1st grade - 8th grade
Attire: Athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes.

Nationals Showcase

Come watch the LU Dance Team as they perform routines being prepared for national competition.

Date: Friday, April 3, 2026
Time: Doors open at 5:30. Performance begins at 6:30 pm
Location: Neches FCU Arena at the Montagne Center
Seating: General admission
Price: $10. LU and LIT students receive free admission with a valid student ID.

Annual Spring Show

The Lamar University Dance Team presents an annual spring show that offers the widest variety of dance styles. Held in the historic Jefferson Theater, this exciting show is one of the most anticipated tickets in town. The directors, team, and guest choreographers create an artistically exhilarating two-act show that teaches each dancer to become a well-rounded performer.

Dates: May 1 and 2, 2026
Time: 7 pm, doors open at 6 pm

2026-2027 Dance Team Auditions

To be eligible for team auditions, you must receive an invitation. You can receive an invitation by attending one of our Spring Clinics. If you're unable to attend either of the Spring Clinics, email ludanceteam@lamar.edu to learn more about our video submission process and how you can still be considered for an invitation to in-person auditions.

Timeline and Information

1. Registration Requirements
   All dancers auditioning must register online and pay the $40 registration fee before auditions. Participants will not be considered for the team unless registration is completed and payment is received.
   Registration Deadline: May 16, 2026
2. In-Person Auditions (By Invitation Only)
   Date: May 17, 2026
   Check-in: 8:30 am
   Auditions Begin: 9:00 am
   Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center
3. Team Announcement
   The 2026-2027 team will be announced same day as in-person auditions. At 5:00 pm, the results  will be posted outside the doors of McDonald Gym.

Additional Info About In-Person Auditions

• Bring a headshot to submit during check-in.
• In-person interviews.
• A 60-second solo of dancers choice in styles contemporary, lyrical, or jazz.
  • Bring your solo music with you.
  • Solo Requirements: Must include technical skills including, but not limited to, battements, extensions/leg holds, pirouettes, a la seconde turns, right and left jeté, leap in second, calypsos, and firebirds. Acro skills are welcome but not required.
  • Solo should not exceed 60 seconds.
• Two short combinations to be learned and performed in front of a panel of judges and the head coach.

• All-black spandex shorts or leggings and a black crop top or sports bra. Rhinestoned or costume tops in black are allowed.
• Hair should be styled out of the face.
• Jazz shoes, barefoot, or half soles for footwear.
• Full game-day makeup with red lipstick is preferred.
• Additional black layers such as a black hoodie, sweatshirt, or sweatpants may be worn for hip-hop. Any color tennis shoes are permitted.
