Lamar University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present “The Wonder in Alice: A Version of Alice in Wonderland,” written and directed by Kate Brennan, Oct. 22 through Nov. 1 at the University Theatre.
Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” the production takes audiences inside the topsy-turvy world of Alice’s ever-wandering, ever-curious mind, where anything is possible and nothing is quite what it seems.
Brennan’s adaptation approaches the familiar story from a young adult perspective, following Alice as she encounters a world that is at once recognizable, strange and difficult to navigate. Through Alice’s “looking glass,” the production explores the uncertainty of trying to understand an unfamiliar world while maintaining the playful, magical and surreal qualities associated with the original story.
The young adult production is appropriate for younger audiences and is open to the public.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22-24 and Oct. 29-31, with 2 p.m. matinees Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 at the University Theatre.
“The Wonder in Alice” is part of the 2026 season presented by Lamar University Theatre and Dance within the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Additional performances, concerts and exhibitions can be found on the college’s Fine Arts Events calendar.
