MLK celebrations planned at LU

The Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence at Lamar University is hosting several events to honor the legacy for civil rights and service of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"This is one of the first events that the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence hosts for the spring semester, and we are excited to start the new year honoring one of the greatest leaders that this world has ever known, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Dr. Wilma Jackson, director of Diversity & Inclusive Excellence. “Now more than ever, we have the opportunity to reap the benefits of the great work that he started."

On Thurs., Jan. 21, the Rev. Michael Cooper, president of the NAACP Beaumont Chapter, is the keynote speaker at a celebration themed, "Transformation: Where do we go from here." The event, co-sponsored by the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence and the LU NAACP Student Chapter, will be held in the Plummer Room on the 8th floor of the Mary and John Gray Library from 4-6 p.m. Those not attending in person can watch it live at
