To honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence will present Transition: Where do we go from here? Our Keynote speaker will be Reverend Michael Cooper, President of the NAACP Beaumont Chapter. In addition, we will also celebrate the recipient of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Visionary Leader Scholarship.

Rev. Michael Cooper received his bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in Social Work from Lamar University. He continued his education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his master’s in psychology. Rev. Michael is also the founder and Pastor of the Church of I Am. He was the president of the Southeast Texas Apartment Association and Toyota Dealer Association and is the current President of the Man 2 Man Mentor Program and the Get on the Bus with Us - All Youth Program. Michael has been a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People since he was a teenager. He now serves as the President of the NAACP branch here in Beaumont, Texas. He is also the former Candidate for Lt. Governor in 2018 and US Senate in 2020.
