VITA Tax Assistance Workshops

International students must file FORM 8843 by June 15th of each year, by mail, to the IRS. 

Topics to be Covered during VITA Tax Assistance Workshop:

  • Resident and Non-Resident Tax Returns defined
  • Scope of tax returns to filed
  • Non-Resident filing dates and forms
  • Affect of Treaties for Non_Resident Taxes
  • What is deductible?
  • What are credits?
  • Refunds and Balance Owed option

The students will need the documents that support the information on Form 13614-NR (Nonresident Alien Intake and Review Sheet).

Income documents will include:

  •  W-2 for wages including gambling and winnings
  • 1098-T for scholarships and school expenses
  • 1099-R for retirement income
  • 1099-MIS for other income
  • 1099-NEC for non-employee compensation
  • 1099-G for any government payments
  • 1099-B for crypto values
  • 1099-DIV for dividends
  • 1099-INT for interest earned
  • 1099-E for student loan interest

These VITA Tax workshops are scheduled to take place weekly, on the dates listed below. All meetings are currently scheduled to take place in the Galloway Business building, Room 243. Only a limited number of participants may attend an event, so please be sure to choose a date that has available space.
