Joana Hyatt is the recipient of an award of excellence from the UCO College of Arts, Media and Design for mural painting and the Priddy Fellowship in Arts Leadership from the University of North Texas. The mindset of leadership that she personally aligns with comes from the idea of servitude leadership, working with members of the community through collaborative art partnerships that serve to enrich the lives of its citizens. As she continues to pursue her research interests in arts-based educational research, she finds it is imperative to expose students and educators to the potential of the arts to tell stories visually, narratively, and through performance. Visual and narrative forms of emergent inquiry are authentic and reflective of multiple interpretations of experience, which are necessary alternatives to scripted assessments in education.
