For the first time, CAPM offered a professional development training course fully online! Introduction to the US Port Industry and Freight Transportation Systems was offered June 8 - June 19, 2020.

  • Fully Online
  • Uses 'Open Education' by Blackboard
  • Two-week program (but have 3 weeks to finish)
  • 40 hours of course work/week
  • Class size limited to 20
  • Taught by industry experts and LU faculty
  • $1,500 tuition fee
  • Non-academic credit

"This ambitious introductory course seeks to set the commercial context for strategic port operations and management. Student understanding will be enhanced through hands-on simulation exercises provided by the leading container terminal training company TBA. Successful completion of these modules will lead to a coveted TBA certificate. There will be sessions on the emerging technologies of automation, autonomous vessels and vehicles and digital platforms such as Blockchain enhancing operations and cargo tracking".

Professional Certificate in Port Management 

The Center for Advances in Port Management and the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Partner for the Industry Recognized Port Certificate (IRPC).

The IRPC is a professional development certificate program focused on enhancing the participant’s fundamental knowledge of the port industry and to introduce them to AAPA and the greater port professional community. The Center has partnered with AAPA to develop relevant curriculum for the modern port professional’s needs. The IRPC program participants apply to the MS in Port and Terminal Management program and take the master level course "Introduction to Port and Marine Terminal Management" (INEN 5302).

Established in the fall of 2015 through the generosity and foresight of the State of Texas, the Center is supported primarily by the colleges of business and engineering. Erik Stromberg has served as the Center’s first executive director since May, 2016.
