The Lamar University Bachelor of Science in Communication with a concentration in advertising is an interdisciplinary program between the College of Business and the Departments of Art and Communication. This program will give you a solid knowledge of business with the creation and placement of information designed to produce sales.

If you're a great listener and enjoy communications at every level, if you are energetic and can adapt to a continually changing work environment and if you have a talent for coming up with creative, artistic ways to express yourself, then Advertising Communication may be the field for you. As a graduate of this program, you will have a wide variety of career options and the skills necessary to become an account manager or planner, a creative director, media expert or interactive marketer.

You'll also be able to participate in the Lamar Advertising FederationThroughout the academic year, AdFed students attend a variety of AAF student conferences across the nation. The pinnacle of the year is the National Student Advertising Competition, in which AdFed competes with teams from around to the nation to create a fully integrated marketing and advertising campaign for a real world client. Past clients include Coca-Cola, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo!, State Farm Insurance and Mary Kay.

Advertising Courses You May Take

Advertising Principles and Practices: An overview of the field of advertising, examines the economic, social, legal, ethical and creative nature of advertising.

Desktop Publishing: Focuses on the use of computer technology to set type, design pages, and create camera-ready copy for newsletters, brochure, advertisements, and other publications.

Social Media Campaigns: Students work with clients, demonstrating strategy and techniques for social media tools and use social media platforms to develop integrated media campaigns. Students will apply common processes and practices for building a successful social media campaign for a client and learn how to evaluate and measure the impact and success of audience engagement.

Advanced Advertising: Creative strategies and media research in advertising.

Advertising Campaign Strategies: Basic principles of research, planning, budgeting, and presentation for advertising campaigns.
