Lamar University’s Dishman Art Museum will host an opening reception for the Department of Art’s graduating seniors from 7 to 9 p.m. May 1. Eight students are fulfilling their requirements for the bachelor of fine arts degree by presenting their senior thesis projects, ranging from painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing to computer graphics.
Trishalana Adair (Altus, Okla.) is majoring in studio art. She will present a series of paintings exploring the surfaces of her canvases layered with sewn and applied materials.
Jack Charles Comeaux (Port Arthur), majoring in fine art, will show a ceramic installation of towers, titled Disclosures, that addresses a child’s act of defiance in the face of abusive authority.
Jillian Day (China, Texas), a graphic design student, has created a promotional campaign for a play, with the goal of proving that graphic design offers infinite creative potential.
Robert Day (Fort Worth) majors in fine art as a painter and sculptor. He has produced an installation of shaped canvases on a monumental scale defying the traditional distinction between painting and sculpture.
Katy Dubuisson (Groves), a graphic design major, has executed a series of mixed-media posters addressing the process of experiencing a panic attack.
Patricia L. Gil de Garcia (Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico) is a fine art major. She has created a series of drawings on paper and cast ceramic faces illustrating contemporary social issues related to the plight of helpless victims.
Sarah Mannino (Beaumont), a graphic design major, will show a film utilizing several techniques of animation.
Anna Myers (Bridge City), a fine art major, will present a series of copper-plate etchings depicting fantastic visions.
The Dishman Art Museum is on the campus of Lamar University at the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr., Pkwy. and East Lavaca. The museum is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
