Lamar Theatre invites you to be swept back in time to an era of knights and ladies, swordfights and castles, and magical escapades galore. “Merlin’s Tale of Arthur’s Magic Sword,” by Keith Enger, will run Saturday, March 7, at 2 and 6 p.m. in the University Theatre. Tickets are specially priced at only $2 per person.
“This is the classic story of Arthur pulling the sword out of the stone to prove his rightful position,” says Lynae Sanford, theater instructor and director of “Merlin.”
“It’s a wonderful adaptation of the Arthurian legend for a young audience, but with a number of action and comedic scenes that the entire family will enjoy.”
The show features the largest cast of Lamar Theatre’s 2008-09 season—15 students in acting roles. The students are enrolled in a children’s theatre class offered through the theatre department.
Featured performers include Jared Fall (Orange, Texas) as Arthur, Jonathan Williams (Lumberton) as Merlin, Jackie Gower (Orangefield) as Morgan le Fay, Chris Murray (Beaumont) as Sir Lot, Nick Brandes (Sealy) as Sir Leodegrance and Justin O’Mara (Cumby) as Sir Uriens.
Rounding out the cast are Jonathan Belmar (Houston) as Sir Lucan, Kristen Davis (Houston) as the Earl of Bagdemagus, Chris Freeman (Channelview) fulfills the role of assistant director and plays Arthur’s adopted father, Sir Hector, Tessa Greer (Houston) plays Arthur’s mother, Lady Lenore, Leslie Maza (Houston) as Arthur’s sister, Marion, David McFall (Houston) as Sir Kay, Jodie Neff (Beaumont) as the Archbishop of Canterbury, Joey Rosco (Beaumont) as both King Uther Pendragon and Agravaine, and Ashley VanPelt (Mauriceville) as Margawse.
The crew includes Megan Barrett (Beaumont) as stage manager and sound operator, and Chelsa Johnson (Houston) will run the lighting.
The period costumes were designed by Emily Dodson (Pittsburgh, Pa.), while Kayla Harper (Liberty) designed the makeup.
