MASTER PLAN 1999 ISSUES
It is the intent of this Master Plan Update to examine, as appropriate, the planning issues that were the basis of the 1999 plan. These issues, which were the foundation of the prior plan, were developed from an inventory of the site, an evaluation of the facilities, and the exploration process with the Long Range Planning Committee. Seven focus areas were identified. Detail of these issues can be found in the 1999 Master Plan.

The remaining issues are those originating in the 1999 Master Plan that are either unresolved or have been identified as issues through the data collection phase which included planning committee meetings, interviews with the University administration committee heads, and selected faculty and staff, and tours of selected campus facilities. These included the following:
Identity and Image
- Identify and strengthen main campus entry
- Strengthen visitor reception and orientation.
Vehicle Circulation and Parking
- Entry and access to campus
- Parking shortages in some areas of campus
- Parking and traffic congestion in center of campus
- Non-campus related traffic
- Improve appearance of parking and streets
Pedestrian Circulation
- Reduce pedestrian/vehicular conflicts
- Improve ease, safety and accessibility of pedestrian routes
- Improve appearance of pedestrian routes
- Block non-university pedestrian traffic
Open Space and Landscape Development
- Improve ambience and comfort of plazas and courtyards
- Provide more open green space on campus
- Screen undesirable neighbors
