Have you ever wanted to go back in time to see what life was like back then? Have you ever wanted to shop at 1901 prices with money of that time? Here is your chance. Take a trip back in time to 1901 to Gladys City where you will be able to get a beer (root beer, that is!) in the Log Cabin Saloon, shop in the dry goods and general stores, and eat ice cream at the drug store. Come and talk to the barber, a blacksmith and a printer!

“This is a new and exciting opportunity for visitors to see an active Gladys City,” Director Troy Gray said. “This event has been a lot to plan but will be loads of fun.”

This event is scheduled for April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The gusher will go off at 12 p.m. and at 2 p.m.

Visitors can give a donation and receive 1901 money in return. They will be able to spend this money throughout the city as well as witness scenes that would have taken place in Gladys City in the middle of the boomtown era. Visitors will be able to take away a sense of what life was like after oil was struck at Spindletop. Things for sale will include hair bows for girls and bandanas for boys in the dry goods store, coffee samples from TexJoy and candy in the general store, ice cream from HEB in the drug store and more.

The event will be free (besides the donation given for 1901 money). Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is a replica of the boomtown that grew up around the Spindletop oil fields in the early 1900s. Located on US 69 at Jimmy Simmons Blvd in Beaumont, the museum is open Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m_.
