Join us on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023 in the Setzer Student Center windowed pre-function area near the ballroom from 12:30 - 1:30, to participate in our annual Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event!
From www.walkamileinhershoes.org:
Since 2001, people around the world have joined the award-winning Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence. It is a dramatic opportunity to raise awareness in your community about the serious causes, effects, and remediations to men's sexualized violence.
Why men in women’s high-heeled shoes? We ask men to walk in women's high-heeled shoes to actively confront gender stereotypes and expectations. In this space of playful confrontation and openness, it's possible to reveal and consider many of the underlying causes of men's sexualized violence with less defensiveness and denial.
The Walk a Mile In Her Shoes Pledge:
"We will no longer knowingly participate in and reproduce patriarchy. We will actively work to reveal, know, and overcome our gender biases. We will actively work to end men's sexualized violence. We will actively deconstruct patriarchy and toxic masculinity and re/construct and co/construct gender identities and gender relations that are:
more supportive to those who identify as male,
masculinities that do not diminish the identities or roles of anyone identifying as female, femme, nonbinary, or nonmasculine, and,
masculinities that support a more ethical relationship to the earth and fellow living beings."
To sign up for free, please scan the QR code in the flyer or follow this link. The deadline to register is April 10th!

Wellness Wednesdays take place each Wednesday, alternating weeks between the Setzer Student Center and posting online through our social media. Healthy Cards work hard to develop health-related topics through activities, give-aways, and educational materials for the student body.
Stop by and meet our Peer Health Educators at their tabling events in the Setzer Student Center and learn about various health topics!
On February 25, 2023, over 350 people gathered at the Lamar University Setzer Center to raise awareness of suicide prevalence, fundraise for suicide prevention education, and to honor those who have been affected by suicide either through personal struggle or through loss of loved ones.
In partnership with AFSP.org, Lamar University campus and community raised over $14,000 for suicide prevention education and programming. This would not have been possible without the help of Lamar University, H-E-B for graciously supplying guests with snacks and drinks, and local mental health organizations such as Spindletop.
Thank you to the LU and LIT community for coming together to make this year's Out of the Darkness event a huge success.
