Cardinals Activities Board - CAB

CAB Coordinators and Directors are responsible for the successful operation of the Lamar Activities Board. The LAB creates and produces multiple activities for LU students each week including Cardinal Craze, Homecoming, Week of Welcome, and many more!

The CAB communicates and negotiates contracts with performers, agents, managers, vendors, and student groups while overseeing event planning. They also research new trends in campus programming to stay relevant and current.

Additional Responsibilities of All CAB Coordinators and Directors
  • Build collaborative partnerships with LU departments, student organizations, and community groups
  • Work with Student Engagement Marketing Coordinator and Campus Outreach Coordinator for marketing needs
  • Lead weekly meetings with CAB Members; Coordinators must attend weekly meetings with CAB Student Director
  • Promptly respond to all messages, voicemails, and emails
  • Promote CAB events to the LU community
  • Positively represent the Cardinals Activities Board on campus and at related off-campus events
  • Maintain organized files and accurate records of events and membership to guide the work of future CAB Members

Work Schedule

  • Up to 19.5 hours per week. All CAB Coordinators and Directors must schedule 12 office hours per week (Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm). Additional required hours vary based on meetings and events.

Required Qualifications for All CAB Coordinators and Directors

  • Must have completed at least 30 semester credit hours

Membership Coordinator

  • Manage recruitment and retention of CAB Members
  • Use OrgSync to track and report volunteer hours, RSVPs, and other CAB Member commitments

Coordinator of Late Night and Weekend Events

  • Serve as lead planner and supervisor for night and weekend events including movie screenings, comedy acts, concerts, poetry slams, meet and greets, game nights, etc

Service Coordinator

  • Serve as lead planner and supervisor for community service events including The Big Event, Alternative Spring Break, etc
  • Maintain and build relationships with non-profit organizations in Beaumont and southeast Texas

Major Events Coordinator

  • Serve as lead planner and supervisor for major events including Homecoming, Week of Welcome, etc
  • Represent the CAB on the University Homecoming Committee

Spirit and Traditions Coordinator

  • Serve as lead planner and supervisor for events related to building and maintaining Spirit and Tradition at LU including Homecoming, Week of Welcome, etc
  • Create opportunities to build school spirit among LU students
  • Serve as CAB liaison to Athletics
  • Build campus and community relationships that preserve and promote the traditions of Lamar University

Campus Outreach Coordinator

  • Serve as lead planner and supervisor for advertising, communicating, and publicizing CAB events to the LU campus
  • Coordinate creation and distribution of flyers, handbills, yard signs, etc to promote CAB events
  • Decorate campus for events
  • Plan and execute all campaigns and communications on CAB's social media platforms
  • Work directly with Student Engagement Marketing Team for marketing needs

Coordinator of Special Programs

  • Serve as lead planner and supervisor for events specific to educational, diversity, service, and leadership on the LU campus
  • Design and produce events including magicians, hypnotists, novelty acts, comedians, and other unique performers

Student Director of the Cardinals Activities Board

  • Oversee the operations of the Cardinals Activities Board
  • Lead CAB Coordinators in the Program Proposal and Post-Event Evaluation systems throughout the year
  • Lead the creation of the CAB calendar of events; ensure CAB events do not conflict with relevant LU or community events
  • Lead staff trainings and socials for CAB Coordinators and Members; educate CAB Coordinators and Members on CAB and LU policies and procedures
  • Use OrgSync to track and report data related to CAB events: participant surveys, volunteer hours, RSVPs, and other CAB Member commitments
  • Lead weekly meetings with CAB Coordinators and CAB general members; prepare meeting agendas; reserve meeting space; call emergency meetings when needed; conduct voting when needed under Robert’s Rules of Order

Required Qualifications

  • Must have at least two semesters of previous experience as a CAB Coordinator
