Dance Team Workshops

LU Dance Team Workshops are open to dancers in high school and college who are interested in joining the Lamar University Dance Team and also those who would like to prepare for a future as a collegiate dancer. This workshop is not only a great preview of what being a member of LUDT is all about, but will help prepare those who attend for a future in dance.

The overall goal of our workshops is to provide interested dancers an environment to improve their technique, learn various styles of dance frequently performed by the LUDT and other dance teams, practice performing during high-pressure situations such as an audition, and of course to see if the Lamar University Dance Team is the right choice for their collegiate career.

Workshop 1 Details

Date: Sunday, February 5, 2023
Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center, 4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.
Registration Fee: $30

Attire: Crop top or sports bra, any color; Black fitted bottoms, any length; jazz shoes or foot undies. Shoes and attire for hip hop like sneakers or sweat pants are optional and can be worn during the hip hop combo.

During Workshop 1, dancers will:

• Learn technique taught by LU Dance Team coaches
• Learn two combos (jazz and hip-hop) from LUDT members
• Ask questions to our coaching staff and current LUDT members during our Q & A portion at the end of the workshop

Workshop 2 Details

Date: Sunday, March 26, 2023
Time: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center, 4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.
Registration Fee: $45

Attire: Crop top or sports bra, any color; Black fitted bottoms, any length; jazz shoes or foot undies; poms. Shoes and attire for hip hop like sneakers or sweat pants are optional and can be worn during the hip hop combo.

• Learn technique taught by LU Dance Team coaches
• Learn a pom routine from Houston Texans Cheerleaders (alumni)
• Learn a hip-hop combo from LUDT alumni
• Learn how to apply to LU with an Admissions Counselor 
• Ask questions to our coaching staff and current LUDT members during our Q & A portion at the end of the workshop

Annual Show

The Lamar University Dance Team presents an annual spring show that offers the widest variety of dance styles. Held in the University Theater, this exciting show has become one of the most anticipated tickets in town.  The directors, team, and guest choreographers create an artistically exhilarating two-act show that teaches each dancer to become a well-rounded performer.

Dates: Friday, May 12 & Saturday, May 13, 2023
Time: Doors open at 6:00 pm. Showtime at 7:00 pm. 
Location: University Theatre at Lamar University
Price: $10

2023-24 Dance Team Auditions

Date: Saturday, June 10 & Sunday, June 11, 2023
Registration: 9:00 am - 9:45 am
End Time: 5:00 pm at the latest on Saturday
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center, 4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.
Fee: $30 payable online after registration

Your skills do not have to be perfect. We're looking for athletes that will try their best and are eager to learn! If unable to make auditions, please submit a virtual audition.
