Dance Team Clinics

Spring Show Clinic for Kids

Date: Sunday, April 21, 2024
Time: 12 pm - 3 pm
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center, 4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.
Registration Fee: $35, includes t-shirt and one ticket to the Annual Show
Age: 1st grade - 8th grade

Attire: Athletic clothing and closed-toed shoes.

During Spring Show Clinic, dancers will:

Learn a routine from the Dance Team to perform during intermission during the May 4 Spring Show
Participants will rehearse the dance learned at the clinic at 5 pm, May 4, before the show begins

Annual Show

The Lamar University Dance Team presents an annual spring show that offers the widest variety of dance styles. Held in the University Theater, this exciting show is one of the most anticipated tickets in town. The directors, team, and guest choreographers create an artistically exhilarating two-act show that teaches each dancer to become a well-rounded performer.

Dates: Friday, May 3 & Saturday, May 4, 2024
Time: Doors open at 6 pm. Show starts at 7 pm.
Location: University Theatre at Lamar University
Price: $12

2024-2025 Dance Team Auditions

Virtual Audtion Deadline: Friday, April 26, 2024
Details: Audition videos must be emailed to Head Coach Dezja Brown at dbrown69@lamar.edu
Fee: $30

All dancers trying out for the Dance Team must register online and pay the $30 fee prior to submitting videos. Virtual submission will not be considered unless registration is completed.

Your skills do not have to be perfect. We're looking for athletes that will try their best and are eager to learn!

Video Requirements
Dancers must submit a 60-second solo in either a jazz, lyrical, or contemporary style, including these specific technical skills:

Battements
Extensions/Leg Holds
Double and Triple Pirouettes
A La Seconde Turns
Right and Left Jete
Leap in Second
Calypso & Firebird

Finalists
On May 17, all audition participants will be notified via email regarding whether they will advance to the final round of in-person auditions. This final round is by invitation only.

Final Round (In-Person): June 1, 2024
Time: Check-in 8:30 am, auditions begin 9:00 am
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center

Finalists will complete in-person interviews, learn pom, jazz, and hip hop combos, and perform in front of a panel of judges and coaching staff. The 2024-2025 team will be announced at 5:00 pm. Contract signing will be June 2, 2024.
