Matt began his cheerleading career as a sophomore at Spartanburg High School, where he lettered in both track and cheerleading every year until graduation. From here his passion for cheerleading intensified as he began to teach tumbling at the local gym Flip Tyme, and has since coached tumbling and all-star cheer teams for over ten years at multiple gyms in the upstate of South Carolina. In addition to coaching and teaching, he worked to develop his technique, earning a scholarship to cheer on the Coed Cheer Team at Limestone College, located in Gaffney, South Carolina. During his five years cheering for the Limestone Saints, Matt earned the “Top Tumbler” award for three years. His team from 2016 was recently announced as a “Team of Distinction”, giving them the opportunity to be inducted into the Limestone Sports Hall Of Fame. Matt was also a proponent of helping grow the program from being noncompetitive his first year to competing at the NCA Collegiate National Championship for the four following years, placing in the top five in their division for his final three years. While attending NCA Camp at Myrtle Beach, SC with Limestone, Matt was recruited to become a member of Varsity Brand’s NCA Speed Staff and will now be entering his fifth summer traveling the country to teach cheerleading teams of all skill levels. While in his fifth year of cheering for Limestone, Matt also began coaching at High Point Academy for both the Varsity and Middle School teams. He is eager to now be joining the Lamar University Spirit Program as the Cheerleading Coach and to become a part of building a competitive, nationally recognized cheer program here in Beaumont, TX just as he did at Limestone College.
