Availability: Meningitis vaccines are available at the SHC subject to stock availability. All prices are subject to change. An appointment must be made and the vaccine must be paid for before the immunization administration. Please call (409) 880-8466 to make an appointment. Other sources for the vaccine include pharmacies, doctor's offices, and clinics.
Requirement: The latest information regarding the bacterial meningitis vaccine is available on the Office of Admissions and Recruitment website.
Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV-4) covers 4 strains of meningitis (A, C, Y, W) and meets the state requirements for admission into an institution of higher education. Records Office: Wimberly Building Room 102Tuberculosis is an infectious, bacterial disease, and an infected person may have one of two types of TB. In a person with tuberculosis disease, also known as active TB, the bacteria are multiplying, making the person sick. This person can also spread the bacteria to others. In a person with latent TB infection, also known as LTBI or inactive TB, the person's immune system prevents bacterial multiplication, thus preventing illness and the spread of the disease. Unfortunately, if the immune system weakens, the bacteria can start multiplying, at which time the person develops active disease.
TB Testing is available for all students. International students must follow the regulations outlined in the Tuberculosis Screening Policy. For an appointment at the Student Health Center, call 409-880-8466.
Two TB tests are available at the SHC. The QuantiFERON TB Gold+ blood test requires just one office visit. The other test is the TB skin test.
The TB skin test requires two office visits. During your first office visit, you receive your injection. The second visit should be scheduled 48 hours later. During the second visit, you are checked for a reaction to the injection.
Students whose academic program requires TB testing should follow the requirements of their program.
International Students: In 2013, Lamar University implemented a tuberculosis (TB) screening policy for all students on an F or J visa. A TB hold prevents class registration.
Complete these steps to manage your TB hold:
