Lamar University remains in elite company as a 2026 Great College to Work For

Lamar University has been nationally recognized for the second consecutive year as one of the best colleges to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program.
The results, released on GreatCollegesList.com and via a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, recognize colleges and universities for excellence in workplace practices, policies, benefits and employee experience.
In addition to being named a Great College to Work For, Lamar University earned Honor Roll designation, placing the university among the top 10 large four-year institutions in the nation for workplace excellence.
“I am especially proud of this achievement because being a great place to work is not about comfort or complacency,” Lamar University President Jaime Taylor said. “It is about creating an environment where people know their work matters, where they are challenged to grow, and where they are supported and empowered to perform at a very high level in service of an important mission. This recognition affirms that our faculty and staff experience Lamar University in exactly that way. Their commitment to our students, to one another, and to the continued success of Lamar University is what makes this honor possible.”
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administration and professional support staff. Employee feedback is the primary factor in determining whether an institution receives recognition.
For 2026, Lamar University earned recognition in all 10 program categories, including Confidence in Senior Leadership, Job Satisfaction & Support, Mission & Pride, and Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness. Lamar University was one of only five institutions in the nation recognized in all 10 categories this year, reflecting an extraordinary level of consistency and excellence across the employee experience.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am even more excited about what we will achieve in the years ahead,” Taylor said.
The Great Colleges to Work For program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in higher education. ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm, administered the survey and analyzed the results.
