Lamar University is now accepting applications for its Student Ambassador program, a selective leadership opportunity for undergraduate students to represent the university at high-profile events while engaging with alumni, community leaders and visiting dignitaries.
Ambassadors serve as official representatives of the student body, helping build goodwill for the university and maintaining a presence at executive-level events such as Regent’s meetings, President’s Circle dinners, alumni gatherings, city proclamations and athletic receptions.
“The Lamar University Ambassadors Program has truly enriched my college experience by providing me the opportunity to serve my school and engage in exciting university events, while simultaneously allowing me to develop skills necessary for future success,” Kadence Garlington, a construction management major and Lamar University Ambassador said.
In addition to representing the university, student ambassadors are expected to be knowledgeable about Lamar University and actively involved on campus.
“Lamar University Ambassadors have a rich tradition of promoting service to LU and to the community at large,” Director of Alumni Affairs Shannon Figueroa said. “Ambassadors represent the LU student body at official university events and work to promote university pride among students, prospective students, alumni and friends of Lamar University.”
To be eligible, applicants must be undergraduate students who have completed at least one full semester at Lamar University and are classified as sophomores or juniors. Students planning to graduate between Fall 2026 and Summer 2027 are ineligible for the 2026–2027 term. Applicants must also have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
The program seeks students with strong communication and interpersonal skills, a flexible schedule and a willingness to assist at weekday, evening and weekend events. Ambassadors are expected to model ethical behavior and professionalism both on and off campus.
Applications are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Alumni Affairs Office, located in the John Gray Center, Rudy C. Williams Building, Room 102.
Recruitment for Lamar University Ambassadors takes place once each spring semester. Interviews for the 2026–2027 term will be held in April 2026, with selected students beginning their service in Fall 2026. Once chosen, students will serve until they complete their undergraduate degree.
Applications must be submitted by noon on March 2, 2026.
