Lamar University to present spring theatre and dance productions
Lamar University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present three productions during the spring semester, including a scripted play, a student works series, and a dance concert.
The semester opens with “Middletown,” written by Will Eno and directed by Joel Grothe, running Feb. 19–21 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. The play is set in a small American town and follows the lives of several residents, including an expectant mother, a handyman, a librarian, and a police officer, as they navigate everyday experiences. The production explores themes of connection, isolation, and the meaning found in ordinary moments.
In April, the department will present “Next Draft: Student Works Series,” scheduled for April 9–11 at 7:30 p.m. and April 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. The production will feature original works written, directed, and performed by Lamar University students. The series highlights emerging voices and offers audiences a look at new and developing theatrical works.
The spring season concludes with “Dance Unleashed,” a concert featuring student performers, running
April 24–25 at 7:30 p.m. with an additional 2:00 p.m. performance on April 25 in the University Theatre. The concert will include a range of dance styles, including modern, contemporary, tap, and jazz.
