Lamar University student Elizabeth Diaz Arreola has been appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to serve as the Texas State University System student regent for the 2026-27 term.
Diaz Arreola is one of eight student regents appointed this year to the governing boards of Texas public university systems and independent universities. She will represent students across the Texas State University System, which includes seven institutions serving more than 102,000 students throughout the state.
A Presidential Scholar, Diaz Arreola is also a member of the Reaud Honors College and serves as a Lamar University Ambassador. Through those roles, she has represented the university while maintaining a strong academic record and pursuing her goal of a career in healthcare.
Student regents serve one-year terms and participate in board meetings and discussions concerning university governance. While student regents have the same rights and privileges as regularly appointed board members, they may not vote or be counted toward a quorum for official board business.
"My leadership goals are to grow as a person while also building up those around me in a positive manner," Diaz Arreola said. "I hope to continue learning from others and representing students as I work toward my future career goals."
She succeeds Texas State University student Donavan Brown, whose term expired May 31.
