Lamar University joins nationwide challenge to perform 500,000 random acts of kindness

Challenge accepted! On Thursday, Feb. 17, Lamar University is joining over 300 colleges and universities nationwide to participate in “Delight-Ful,” an event focused on celebrating, encouraging and carrying out random acts of kindness across the country.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the LU Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall, the LU campus community can enjoy a Cajun shrimp boil, with locally sourced seafood from Oceans 97, hosted by two-time Super Bowl champion and culinary entrepreneur, Jarvis Green. Throughout the day, there will be guest appearances, kindness giveaways and activities located both indoors and outdoors for guests to participate in. chartwells-delight-ful

“I'm so proud and excited to be a part of an event that will help impact the lives of everyone on campus. Showing kindness to others goes a long way and makes people feel special, “said Krystal Bradley, LU Chartwells marketing manager. “It's so important to uplift and encourage one another because you never know what others are going through. Remember to be the change you want to see.”

The signature event is hosted by LU’s foodservice partner Chartwells Higher Educations and is part of the company’s Joy-Ful program, which is a year-long campaign aimed at welcoming and celebrating students being back together in a special, memorable and safe way. In addition to hosting the “Delight-Ful” event, Chartwells also is facilitating a canned food drive to support the LU Cardinal Food Pantry housed at the Wesley Foundation on campus. Donation boxes will be placed inside of the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall and students, faculty and staff who bring five canned good items will gain free entry into the Dining Hall.
